on posting screenshots of the results or responses from search systems

    Speculative classroom assignment:
    (1) Imagine you are employed at a search engine and your job is to identify (for posting on social media) screenshots of the results or responses from search systems, yours or your competitors. Write down OKRs and a posting checklist.

    (2) Find examples in your search history or from adversarial-searching now to propose 5 screenshots and blurbs.

    (3) With a team of 3-4, assign roles: Legal, Marketing/Sales & Growth. Review the proposed OKRs, checklists, and proposed posts from another team. Write a policy brief.

    (4) Trade policy briefs and use them to guide an internal review / audit of the (visible) posting strategies of three search systems (including the company accounts and active executives). Consider their respective risk appetites. Be sure to look at multiple social platforms.

    (5) As a team, choose one search system and propose a policy-and-design intervention that recruits the users to generate their own compelling critical and/or boastful screenshots.

    (6) Discuss the differences between the initial proposals from the class and the found examples. You’ve now been poached by a major advertiser, interest group, hedge fund, or subreddit to help them nudge search systems in their interest. How will you?
