Research on algorithmic fairness often centers questions of distribution that support precise formalism and technical implementation. Examining tweets about the Twitter algorithm, this paper broadens that conversation to the experiences of people subject to algorithmic classification and decision-making. It identifies concerns about fairness alongside attempts to exert legitimate control over algorithmic processes and argues for clearer definitions and better support for users’ collective choices.
