sharing interfaces for generative search responses

This is a doc about generative search (and search-like) tool support for sharing responses/results through a ‘sharing interface’.

My attention to support for sharing results of searches, or documenting that a search has been performed, is partially due to (1) lessons re sharing and repairing searching in my dissertation, 5. Repairing searching, and (2) lessons on search complaints in my paper with Emma Lurie: Search quality complaints and imaginary repair: Control in articulations of Google Search

    Sharing interface

These tools provide an interface to link directly to a copy of your interaction (or a portion of it).

    • OpenAI’s ChatGPT
    • Perplexity AI
    • Phind
    • You.com’s YouChat
    • Inflection AI’s Pi
    • Google’s Bard

    No sharing interface

These tools DO NOT provide an interface to link directly to their search results.

    • Andi
    • Google
      • Search Generative Experience (SGE)
      • Code Tips
    • Anthropic’s Claude 2 (supports copying the result via a button (to markdown?))

Edited 2023-08-10 11:06:32 -0700: Google’s Bard now supports a sharing interface. Discovered while looking at it’s performance on the “a toothpick, a bowl of pudding, a full glass of water, and a marshmallow” balancing challenge. Here is an example shared link.
